About the project

DesirMed is a project carried out for Criteria s.r.l. as part of an initiative developed in collaboration with the Sardinia Region's Department of the Environment. Infora built the web platform bimm.sardegnaambiente.it for managing and processing images of monitored beaches, with the aim of studying shoreline evolution and the accumulation of Posidonia seagrass.

The platform supports image annotation and analysis, integrating computer vision algorithms for photo segmentation and a processing system that turns each image into a set of georeferenced data. The system is developed in Python, uses a PostgreSQL database with PostGIS extensions and integrates with a network of acquisition stations deployed across the territory, which are controlled by the web application. The project turns environmental engineering research and methodologies into an operational tool accessible to remote users organised into working groups.
